AfreLib Trust Launches Volunteer Drive for Sustainable Library Initiatives in Africa
AfreLib Trust Initiates Volunteer Program for Green Library Development**
AfreLib Trust has launched its first cohort of volunteers for the Green Library Development Project. This group of driven and skilled individuals is dedicated to positively impacting African communities through advocacy for education, literacy, and environmental sustainability.
The project aims to enhance education, literacy, and creativity across Africa by establishing eco-friendly libraries that promote a culture of learning. Aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the initiative focuses on environmentally sustainable libraries.
Over a six-month period, volunteers will focus on tasks such as communication, advocacy, and conducting various research initiatives, including sustainable library development case studies, community needs assessments, and compiling a comprehensive Green Library Resources Database. The program will continue to grow as more volunteers join.
Participants will have the opportunity to learn from experts, broaden their networks, collaborate with peers, and gain personalized recognition and recommendations. Their contributions will directly support sustainable library development, enhancing their skills and making a significant impact on communities throughout Africa.
In addition to research and communication efforts, a team comprising architects, quantity surveyors, and construction specialists is working to set standards for sustainable library construction in Nigeria and beyond. The volunteer groups are coordinated by Consultant Librarian and Project Director Dr. John Alonge, under the leadership of AfreLib Trust Founder and Chair, Mr. Larry Ajuwon, who co-founded the organization to boost literacy and education across the continent.
